Welcome to my practice!

Denver Counseling for Adults

I provide walking sessions for adults at Wash Park

As a certified Grief Recovery® Specialist, I work with clients during the healing process after a significant emotional loss.  I provide one-on-one grief counseling.  I help clients regain a sense of joy and hope after a painful, and/or complicated loss.

My training and practice in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) have given me the tools to successfully treat individuals who have experienced traumatic events. EMDR is a powerful therapeutic technique that not only helps people heal after trauma, but also aids with performance enhancement with sports, career, or school.

I offer outdoor therapy for those interested in walking and talking. Research on spending time in natural environments can be linked to mental health benefits. I like meeting clients at Washington Park in Denver or the Highline Canal trail.

I also have years of experience helping clients to build toolkits to relieve uncomfortable symptoms related to depression, anxiety, stress, relationship struggles and parenting issues.

I look forward to meeting all potential clients.  I offer free initial 30 minute phone consultations. As a dedicated professional, I will continually work to provide you with appropriate, high-quality services.

Taking that first step in contacting a therapist can sometimes be hard.  Please know that your initiative to get help is a sign of strength.  I can be reached by phone call, text or email to schedule an appointment.

After a career in public education, I returned to graduate school and earned a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology in 2011 from University of Denver.  I am a Colorado licensed professional counselor.  Also, I am EMDR certified and fully trained as a Grief Recovery® Specialist.

I earned a Master's Degree in Teaching from Tufts University and a Certificate in Advanced Educational Study from Boston College.  I have an undergraduate degree in English Literature from St. Lawrence University.

I am passionate about mental health and strive to establish a caring, nonjudgmental therapeutic relationship with clients which fosters insight and positive change.  Knowing firsthand about loss, depression, and challenging transitions, my ambition is to help instill hope, meaning and happiness into people's lives during difficult times.

I moved to Colorado with my husband and three children in 2002.  Before moving, I lived in Connecticut and Massachusetts where I was a high school special education teacher working with socially and emotionally maladjusted students.  My family and I have wonderful adventures exploring the West, and we enjoy mountain activities such as skiing, camping and hiking.  My hobbies include walking, yoga, tennis, reading, and travel.  I am a member of the EMDR International Association.

“You have positively impacted my life”

“Thank you Barb Fraser for your compassionate, goal-oriented approach to my personal counseling journey. You have positively impacted my life and given me countless tools to manage stress and anxiety that I will use forever. I especially appreciate your use and knowledge of EMDR, as I was previously unaware of this form of therapy. You expertly answered all questions I had about EMDR and really alleviated any concerns I had about trying something new. Through my EMDR sessions with you, I was able to get to the root of my issues from the past and overcome some very traumatic experiences. I wholeheartedly believe that my work with you has increased my self-esteem and made me a better wife and small business owner. I would recommend your caring, professional services to anyone looking to improve their outlook on life and be as healthy and happy as possible.”
